“Some of Britain’s biggest supermarkets and companies must do more to stop exploitation, Dame Sara Thornton, the independent anti-slavery commissioner, has said.

She warned that “no supply chain is safe from modern slavery” and that UK organisations cannot afford to be complacent. A report from her office said: “While some leading businesses are investing in their supply chains . . . others are barely paying lip service to minimum legal obligations.”
